Yup, you read that right. My voice is now live on the radio every Monday night at 7 pm on Sonoma’s own KSVY, 91.3.
In a moment of enthusiasm back in May, I reached out to my hometown community radio station with a crazy idea and no expectations.
One thing led to another, as they say, and Insight into Health with Allison McKeany went live Monday, September 15th, with the first hour-long episode.
This process is reminding me that it is good to be a beginner. Always learning. Always challenging myself.
And this radio gig is no joke.
Community radio means I am a one-stop shop — I not only bring the voice and content but also manage all the buttons and knobs and dials behind the scenes.
And you can tell that I am a beginner.
It is one thing to talk for the better part of an hour. Easy peasy.
It is another thing completely to talk while simultaneously watching the clock to time the intro, outro, and breaks correctly, wrapping up thoughts or conversations smoothly while also trying to remember how to fade in my filler music and then activate the break announcements.
And when the break announcements don’t work? Surprise! I fumble my mic back on after far too much dead air and do my best impression of a seasoned radio host: “Welcome back to listener-supported KSVY radio 91.3, voices of the valley.” Thank goodness for the sign in 48-point type right in front of my face so I remember what to say.
I’m embracing the challenge. Breathe in. Breathe out.
The theme of the show will sound familiar.
My pitch:
You know the basics: eat more fruits and vegetables, move your body, get better sleep. But lifelong health isn’t just about what to do — it’s about why and how to make healthy living realistic, enjoyable, and sustainable.
Insight into Health with Registered Dietitian Allison McKeany is changing the way we think about wellness — no shame, no pressure, just real talk.
Through personal stories, interviews, and translating nutrition science, Allison helps reframe what it means to be healthy at every stage of life. The goal? To help you live a better life because you want to, not because you should.
The show is divided into three segments with breaks at 20 and 40 minutes past the hour.
Each show kicks off with a deep dive into one key component of the Insight into Health framework — exploring the why behind it, the science that supports it, and most importantly, how you can start applying it to your own life in real, doable ways.
The second segment invites guests in to ask questions or to teach me about how they approach health, whether it be a tap dance instructor, a local farmer, or a mental health professional.
The final segment is all about what I’m reading/cooking/watching/listening to…basically whatever excites me at the moment. My hope is that it excites and inspires some of the listeners too.
If you are intrigued, I encourage you to take a listen to my episode from last week. Sadly (or not), my first episode didn’t get posted after it aired, so you are spared the awkwardness. This episode is only mildly awkward…
