You’ll be shocked to hear that I am most often asked to bring a salad to a potluck gathering (it is probably in the fine print of the job description, not that I’m complaining).
I try to bring something meal-worthy - both to ensure my salad stands up to the other mouthwatering dishes as well as to be sure there is something I know I can eat as a meal, if it comes down to it ;)
When I am asked for my salad recipe, however, I am put in the awkward position of explaining that I don’t really follow a recipe. For my salads or my frittatas or my chili or my soups — or for most of the foods I cook, actually.
Instead, there seems to be a number of recipe templates in my head that I pull from based on what ingredients I have on hand or the flavors I am craving. So, I finally sat down to write out several of these recipe templates, and my tech-savvy perfectionist of a husband, Lyle McKeany, helped me make them pretty.
Here is the much-requested salad template that I owe far too many people — please feel free to download, print, and share:
Feedback and ideas for other templates are welcome!
Thanks for being here,
~Allison
Alison! So thrilled to see this. I have really enjoyed the chilli template you gave us in the class at Sonoma Splash. I will add this to the rotation. This is much appreciated!
You make it very simple for us. We make it difficult. Thank you!
